Software to Prevent Female Foeticide

Mindset of the people needs to be changed and women should be empowered. Female feticide is common in India. The parents-to-be get the sex of r their unborn child checked by ultrasonography, and if it is a girl, they abort the pregnancy. As a result, the decline in female child population has taken a serious dimension. In India, the ratio of 0-6 year’s old female and male child has declined from 976: 1000 in 1991 to 927: 1000 in 2001. Since then India has been losing about 9 lakh girls a year.

Now it will not happen on such way.

To Prevent Female Foeticide Trichy district medical and rural health services department on Monday introduced the windows version of the web-based software to keep track of ultrasound scan centers in Trichy district.
 Jayashree Muralidharan(District collector) unveiled the software, the first-of-its-kind initiative in the state to integrate and network all the 224 ultrasound scan centers in the entire district.

In accordance wit the Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PNDT) Act, 1994 that prohibits sex selection before or after conception, all the ultrasound scan centres should be closely monitored to prevent the misuse of sex-determination.
With the introduction of the software, initially, all the centres in Trichy district should upload their details and send the monthly report of their process. Thereafter, their activities will be closely monitored by the officials concerned. Moreover, the software will provide the full version of the PNDT Act, the rules and requirements of the ultrasound scan centres. Most importantly, the public can file a complaint about the erring scan centres to the authorities.
Dr. Mohanasundaram , the joint director of medical services, Trichy district said the government intensified its action to reduce the female foeticide after the child sex ratio dipped to 948, 939 and 946 in the years 1991, 2001 and 2011 respectively. In 2011, the female adult ratio and child sex .
